Mountain biking route that explores the southern Sierra de Cazorla. It can be started in different places depending on the ability of the group. The full ride is a little over 40km. Starting at Lake Bolera easy going through shady pine forest on good tracks lead into the olive groves above Pozo Alcon. A fast gentle descent enters the brightly coloured landscape below Cuenca. This is the where the climbing starts. Though no where steep, this is a long one. Height is quickly gained on the twisty Tiscar before turning off on a dirt trail into the Sierra de Cazorla. The views south towards Granada and the Sierra Nevada are stunning. The route continues climbing on a good surface for a few Km before turning off just before some huge cliffs full of birds of prey. There now follows some challenging ascents as the track climbs around high ridges above impressive valleys giving fantastic views towards the Altiplano de Granada. Soon the time to pad up for the downhill section arrives. This descent drops 1000m (over 300oft) and gives some of the best very technical singletrack switchback riding around. It includes the difficult "Castril grip factor", a short steep section with a drop off on a tight S bend with lots of big stones. This has only been ridden clean a few times and requires control and determination. More technical switch backs follow and eventually the chance to relax and follow easy dirt tracks back to the start. A cold one is well deserved at the bar above the Lake.
