This walks visits the well cared for horticultural area on the 'vega' above Castril, before heading into the hills below the impressive cliffs of Zurdica. You should see the colourful Hoopoe bird amongst the Olives, and huge vultures overhead. Great views looking back down over the landscape towards the Sierra Nevada in the distance.
From Cortijo Sierra Castril, follow the tarmac road North until the second junction on the left. Take this for about 150m before taking the obvious right turn. Follow the obvious track through the vega, with it's many forms of cultivation and variety of fruit trees. The route continues through a small group of houses where the path swings round to the right and turns into a tarmac road. Take a right at the T junction and follow the road for 200m to a track on the left. Wooden pole with a white arrow. Follow the signed way with the white arrows. These lead into the obvious valley, watch out for the sign into the valley as it's hard to spot( points up what looks like a dry stream bed). Follow the lovely valley for around 500m before an arrow heads right up a gully. At the path junction take a right up to a col. Here follow the path down until it becomes impossible to find, and strike down hill through the trees to immerge at a well worn track. Take a right, down through a group of houses. Follow the obvious track through the Olives heading back towards the tarmac road. Back at the road take a left. Just after the obvious big water deposit ( Tubo) take a right onto the track. This is followed back to a tarmac road, where a right will lead back to the start.
