Winter walking is Spain can be a wonderful experience. At Cortijo Sierra castril we are in a great situation to offer walks in the high mountains of the area which often have some snow cover between December and March. This is mainly due to the altitude of the mountains being around 2000m. At this time of year the air is extremely clear and the views crystal clear in all directions.
Being in winter our walks would require the use of a walking axe and the carrying of crampons. Warm clothing is essential on the high peaks as temperatures even in the daytime at 2000m can be below freezing. Some experience of winter walking is an advantage, but not essential.
The walking routes are in the Sierra de Castril and the Sierra de Cazorla as well as an ascent of the highest peak in mainland Spain outside the Sierra Nevada and the Pyrenees - Mount Sagra 2382 m.
